SECURITY GUARD(2017)
“Security Guard” is a video installation that content is divided into 2 parts. The first part tells a story of a security guard at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) while he was on duty. The second part portrays interior architecture of BACC during off hours. The work came with shapes and objects converted from ambient and experimenting sounds collected from the building. By making this art, Saroot is trying to find the possibility to transform the intangible atmosphere in BACC into tangible objects that are visible in his video installation.

CCTV OF SECURITY GUARD(2019)
Security Guard, 2017, a video installation that was part of the “Early Years Project #2” at BACC before the art centre’s financial problem became known to the public. Originally, the content of the video was divided into two parts. The first was about the memory of the security guard at the art centre, from ghost stories and legends. Mysterious footprints that appears on an installation, or the only Indian Laburnum tree that bears flowers, these stories happened within the area of the art centre and also hint at the political events that happened nearby. The second part of it consisted of images of the centre’s interior architecture, taken during the non-working hours, along with rendered images of a strange-looking sphere that was visually decoded from the sound inside the building.
When asked to re-exhibit the video installation, Supasuthivech instead went through the footages he has previously gathered from the art centre and came up with CCTV OF THE SECURITY GUARD, 2019, which is developed from the previous work. The artist said that it is “a look back into the soul for the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre that is about to die again” The footage shown in the video is divided into multiple screens, similar to a CCTV monitor. The memory of the same security guard still tells the mysterious tale he encoun-tered, but this time with the accompanying images of the after-hour emptiness from different areas of the art centre.
The coming together of the site-specific history and the memory of the security guard, who might have spent the time inside much more than other people, makes the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre look like a living organism, whereas the CCTV footage, at the same time, naturally shifts the viewer to a surveilling point of view. The rendered image of the Art Centre floats on the black screen in a limbo state with no place to go, representing the image of today’s ghost in the digital age of government interference and internet.
