♤(PHO) (2021)

Every place has its own history - and story. At Sam Yod community, a plaque marking the historic spot where the first film projection took place still stands today, next to a Bodhi tree. This installation work consists of a replica of a Bodhi tree standing on a blue round rug and hugged by 3 TV screens. The setup is an attempt to replicate the neighborhood where cinema came to Siam 124 years ago.

The first TV screen recounts the story of the first film screening in 1897. On the second screen, a 73-year-old man who has lived in the community almost all his life shares his memory and experience. Beyond the two screens, the last one pressed against a wall shows the memorial plaque, parts of it chipped and eroded by time.

These elements in the work piece together the time from 124 years ago, merged with thexq old man's memory, to show the passage of time that casts something aside while other things remain.
